چکیده

Third generation mobile systems supporting UMTS radio access, will offer a wide range of telecommunication services including voice, video and data. In line with the ETSI GMM report, these services will be provided in both public and private environments via multiple access networks such as ATM, DECT, GSM and UMTS. The evolution path from second generation systems towards UMTS is investigated within the ACTS project EXODUS (EXperiments On the Deployment of UMTS). The project implements a platform offering mobile multimedia services which include video-telephony, data access and near real-time monitoring, in conjunction with personal and terminal mobility support. Access to the EXODUS platform is provided by enhanced ATM terminals and wideband DECT equipment. This paper presents terminal and signaling enhancements for support of wired and wireless access in a broadband multimedia mobility environment. The perspective includes interworking, support of multimedia mobility, signaling and protocol stacks. Hardware, software, and relevant core network issues are also addressed.

A Generic Approach to IP-based Broadband Satellite Multimedia Systems

A number of broadband satellite systems have been proposed in recent years offering alternative technical solutions. The highest possible level of commonality is desirable especially for user terminals, even when different satellite transmission systems are used, in order to reduce the cost of user equipment and expand the satellite services market. IP-based transport is increasingly seen as a ...

Fixed Access to UMTS Service Capabilities

This paper investigates the provision of UMTS service capabilities through fixed access. A core network based on enhanced B-ISDN is considered which supports multimedia services (videotelephony, data access and near real-time monitoring) with personal and terminal mobility. The focus is on fixed access to such services through enhanced broadband (ATM) terminals. The technical perspective includ...
